Wed/Thursday Aug 31st & Sept 1st Days 11 &12





We will continue today with...5 themes presentation

Our first class project will be on the 5 themes of geography. 
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 5 themes of Geography video called - (Flocabulary )
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The 5 Themes Project will place you into groups of 5 (each student will be assigned one of the 5 themes) your assignment is to build a 8 X 11 page displaying and explaining the theme you have been assigned. All 5 of the pages in your group should have a similar themes to them. They should look like they are part of a package.

When building your page, you should follow the PARC principle of design. PARC Principle

You will be using the Google Slides tool to make your 5 themes slide.

Tuesday/Wednesday Aug 23rd & 24th Days 5 & 6

3 Paragraphs about Me

Objective: Given access to a Chromebook, students will be able to access Google Docs and write a 3 paragraph summary about themselves (answering specific questions), using the tools taught in class the previous session. 

Rationale: Students need to utilize the tools taught to them to ensure the learning becomes a part of their skill set.


Evidence: Producing the document and following the directions will demonstrate that students have acquired the basic skills of Google docs (word processing) and can apply those skills to an assignment.

1. Make a copy of your 3 Paragraphs About Me.
Upload the first copy into Google Classroom (you can delete the directions sheet from the upload).
2. The second copy you made...label it with a "2" at the end, meaning "3 Paragraphs about me 2"
3. Share the second version with a partner that I assign to you.
4. We we will watch a video on how to share and comment on documents - (on the Video Tutorials Tab).
5. Once the video is finished you will share your doc with your partner and both of you will apply comments to each other's paper.
6. The last step will be you introducing your partner to the class. The directions for how you will do this are located at the bottom of the 3 Paragraphs about me directions sheet.

Monday Aug 22nd Day 4

Mapping Monday's & Current Events

Today we will get our textbooks and go over the process of Current Events and Mapping assignments


Objective: Given access to a Chromebook, students will be able to access Google MyMaps App and a Google Drive based Current Events Template from the class Blog. Using the MyMaps app and the template, students will be able to look-up current events and summarize their selected story on the template. IN addition students will be able to use the MyMaps app to plot the location of these current event stories. 

Rationale: Students need to utilize the tools taught to them to ensure the learning becomes a part of their skill set. In addition, students need to become geographical aware of the world around them.


Evidence: Filling-in the Current Events template as well as using MyMaps to plot the location of the stories, will demonstrate that students have acquired the basic skills of fulfilling the  assignment.

Thursday/Friday Aug 18th/19th Days 2 and 3

World Cultures

Where have you been activity?
- line yourself up alphabetically from A to Z based on where you went this last summer. If you did not travel, then you are "S" for San Jose.
Once you have lined-up, think one thing about the location that was different from San Jose.

These can be:
Weather
Topography (shape of the land...mountains, flat with no mountains, lots of rolling hills, etc)
Vegetation (was it tropical, desert, forest, etc)
Animal Life (the animals that are native to that location...not just what you saw in a zoo)


You will log-on to your San Jose Unified Google acct, access the classroom blog, and start the lesson about using Google Docs

Wednesday Aug 17th, Day 1

World Cultures 1,2

This is the Classroom Blog - you will log-in to this site each day when you arrive.


(Monday’s ) - these are shorter days the bell schedule changes on Monday’s. Monday’s are known as Mapping and Current Event Monday’s. Each Monday you will search and write a summary about two current events. There is a Current Events Template that you will use to write-up your current event story.
In addition, you will establish a MyMaps (from mymaps.google.com) world map to place the location of your current event.

(Tuesday's-Friday's) you will copy the journal question of the day into a Google Doc (titled Journal Entries) You will write a response to the journal question (you'll have approx 5 mins to do this). We will have a class discussion about the journal subject and hear different perspectives in regards to the issue presented. After this warm-up activity we will proceed with the schedule of the day

Today we will get temporary seating assignments, go over the course syllabus, classroom expectations, procedures, etc,etc.

Each day students will go to the chromecart as a table group. Each student is assigned a chromebook based on your seat number.

You will log-in and access the class blog - SJUSD student log-in

We will also be using Google Classroom for assignment submission (if the assignment is electronic in nature) On the class blog are the class codes for Google Classroom.
