Friday Feb 27th Day 32

Rally Schedule Special Bell Schedule Day

We will continue with what we started Wed/Thursday. This is a short period where you should continue to annotate the Guns Germs and Steel article and write the new headlines as well as answer the 3 questions.  - Guns Germs and Steel

In addition, I will be checking your assignment sheet spreadsheet as the grading period ends today. You should check to be sure your spreadsheet agrees with the on-line posted grades I have for you.


Objective: Students will be able to hypothesize about why some countries have accumulated great riches over time while other remained historically poor and share these ideas with classmates in small and large group discussions. Objective: Students will be able to hypothesize about why some countries have accumulated great riches over time while other remained historically poor and share these ideas with classmates in small and large group discussions. In addition, Discuss what they have learned by providing specific reasons, facts, and examples from the film and their notes.

Start of Imperialism Unit

We will use today and tomorrow as a Mapping and Current Event Monday seeing this Friday is a Rally schedule.

For Monday and Tuesday, use the Block time to work on Current Events. The Mapping portion of the will be on Europe, so make sure one of your current events is from Europe.

Mapping/Current Event Monday

This current event assignment will be titled Current Event 5 (week #5) - It will be due one week from today on March 2nd. (P3_LastName_CurrentEvent5)

Objective: Each student will be able to identify a current event story, summarize its key components into a summary paragraph, as well as plotting the location of the story on a map of the country in which it occurred.

Rationale: Students need to gain a better understanding of events occurring around the world and where those places are located.


Evidence: By summarizing a story and plotting it on a map, students will show evidence of a global perspective on events affecting the world beyond their immediate surrounding.

Rationale: Students need to use an image editing tool for future projects

Evidence: By downloading the app and using it to edit an image students will be able to show evidence that the tool will have a practical use in class.

Closure: At the end of the period, students should be able to demonstrate the use of One tool.

USA Political and Physical Test Day

Part 2 of the Block
Objective: Given access to a web connected Chromebook, students will be able to play a Kahoot.it game generated by the teacher as a review of the population unit test to be administered during the next class block

Rationale: Students need to review the material presented in class in a fun competitive manner so they can measure their current understanding of population material.

Evidence: By attempting to answer the Kahoot.it questions, students will see where they currently stand as far as their knowledge of population material.

Closure: At the end of the game, students will reflect on the areas they felt confident in their knowledge and areas they need to review prior to the test.

After the video students will then access the One Child Policy Essay and Questions. These questions can be discussed at your table. China One Policy Intro Essay & Questions - Intro Article regarding One Child Policy

Students will split up responsibilities at their table with each student being assigned a separate DBQ document. Each document has a reading and questions. Each student will be responsible for their assigned documents and questions. When finished each table should share their findings and discuss the main theme of the document.


The last step is to read and answer the last "summary" article regarding the One Child Policy - Part 2 Article & Q's


All assignments will be turned-in as one "Shared Doc" when we are finished.

Thursday Friday Feb 5th & 6th Days 21 & 22

China's One Child Policy (Day 2)


Objective: Given access to several primary source materials dealing with the various components effecting the One Child Policy in China, students will be able to explain with supporting detail their opinion on if the policy was a good idea or a bad idea, using a chart to identify the various strengths and weaknesses of the system.

Rationale: Overpopulation is a very real issue effecting the world today, and will become a bigger issue for countries if they are unable to support their population. China faced this real problem in the 1980's, and students should understand the decision china took and the consequences (both good and bad) for those decisions.

Evidence: By arguing through evidence that the One Child Policy was good or bad, the student will demonstrate their understanding of the various factors which went into the Policy and the effects of its implementation.

The below assignments will be due During the Next class block (Thursday/Friday). The block Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to completing the Digital version of the Infographic.

We will finish the Video and proceed with the other assignments (below) students will also be given time in class to work on their Infographic.
