Imperialism
Guns Germs & Steel

Objective: Students will be able to hypothesize about why some countries have accumulated great riches over time while other remained historically poor and share these ideas with classmates in small and large group discussions. In addition, Discuss what they have learned by providing specific reasons, facts, and examples from the film and their notes.

Rationale: Students need to gain a better understanding of the factors that led some civilizations to develop the power to dominate and control other cultures.

Evidence: By summarizing Jared Diamonds theory on why some cultures dominated the world, students will evaluate his theory against other ideas regarding imperialism.

In preparation for the reading annotation activity, we will go over a new process called Skimming and Scanning.
